My name is Rachel Burge, I am 21 years old and from New Zealand. I am studying and shooting at Emmanuel College on an archery scholarship. Two and a half years ago, I packed up my bow and a bag of clothes to move half way around to world to chase a dream of being able to shoot on a colligate team while working towards a degree. I love being in America, and it has opened a whole new world to me.

I have been part of promotional radio station ads representing Emmanuel, a team captain of Emmanuel College’s Varsity Archery team and ranked second in the South East Region of America. Some of my major tournament successes include:

  • Gold medal at NAA Indoor Regionals
  • Gold medal at NFAA Sectionals and Regionals
  • Gold and Silver at Outdoor Regionals
  • Collegiate bronze medal at Arizona Cup
  • Academic and All Region All American
  • 4th Mixed Team at Colligate Nationals 2016
  • 6th at Colligate Nationals 2016

My major goals are to finish my Bachelor’s degree and represent New Zealand or America on a world cup scale while working towards the Olympics. The possibility of making an Olympic run for Tokyo is in my mind’s eye. Long term I want to finish my degree as a Physiotherapist and work as a coach helping the advancement of archery in New Zealand.

THE DAYS OF UNSTABLE ARROW FLIGHT ARE FINALLY OVER…

My relentless quest for superior hard hitting and accurate performance has arrived. For over 25 years, I’ve tested every archery product and component available and have refined arrow technology as you know it by thinking outside the box and simply making it better… A lot better.

The new standard is now available and here for the taking. We’ve changed everything you know about arrow performance and have set the bar for a new era of archers.

For the competitive shooter, every component of the Viking CenterPin™ System works together to deliver precision, forgiveness and stability in all shooting conditions.

For the hardcore bowhunter, you get punishing on-target precision coupled with unsurpassed lethality. Valkyrie arrows are designed for zero impact failure on big game.  When you couple the Valkyrie Jagger™ with Viking CenterPin™ System, both accuracy and penetration are maximized and pass-throughs become the standard.

The days of disposable arrows and components are over.

If you are looking for improved accuracy, dependability, and simplicity… Valkyrie Archery makes the system you need.

Have you been Chosen?

Welcome to Valkyrie Archery.

NOTE: I messed up in the recording and said episode 17.

Here we are in Episode 16 with the founder of “Prodigy Outdoors,” Tim Cool. Prodigy Outdoors started in 2012 while Tim was in college. This is where he met his partner Cody Hesseltine.  They grew up in area where the hunting was mediocre at best, and they had a very rough start in the beginning; they had a video camera and editing software but had no clue how to even get the files into the software. At that time they hunted more on luck.

Through a lot of hard work, terrible videos, misses, and lack of funds, they have blossomed into the unit they are today. Though still learning (and still broke), it has all been worth it - they honestly wouldn’t have it any other way. They want to inspire others to dream big, whether its hunting or being the fastest Rubik's Cube solver. They think the key is to find something and stick with it. Accept the fear and tears and keep riding it out.

Tim says “Thanks to Bear Archery, Black Eagle Arrows, Vaportrail Archery, Nose Jammer, Covert Cameras, Hot Shot Manufacturing, and our family and friends across the world. Though we have a small fan base we have a strong connection amongst.”

Follow them at @prodigyoutdoors or on YouTube at Prodigy Outdoors.

In this episode we discuss:

  • Camera tips
  • Starting your own company
  • Camera and editing equipment
  • Some awesome stories
  • And so much more

Here we are in Episode 15 with Hazen Ripple. Hazen grew up chasing whitetails in Michigan and now lives out east in Connecticut. His passion for chasing whitetails has grown into creating “Behind The Shot Productions." Behind The Shot Productions is not a TV hunting show. It is a look into his life that will show you the highs and lows of hunting, the success and failures, and what’s really going on behind the kill shots. It will leave you wanting to come back for more.

Hazen has watched a lot of shows that were missing the meaning of hunting. His goal with Behind the Shot Productions is to show you the real meaning. He tries to include his family in everything, and his videos will probably show more of his 15 month old daughter walking in the woods than deer hitting the ground.

“Kids need to be raised in the woods, our wives need to be introduced to the woods, and I do my best to make sure that happens” says Hazen.

Hazen is a blue collar, hard-working guy with a strong love for family and a passion for hunting. He works 7am to 5pm Monday through Friday and gets in the woods as much as he can. “Anybody can do what I do, I hunt mostly all public land and all my hunts are filmed by myself. I enjoy the challenge of filming/bowhunting and then trying to make it all come together.”

There is nothing in the world like the feeling of when it does come together. His wife and daughter are his support system and push him to never give up. He put together a video series on YouTube and he hopes you can enjoy a look into the hunts and outdoor adventures of another DIY, public land hunter like yourself.

In this episode we cover:

  • Your quick start into filming your hunts solo.
  • Involving your kids and other family in the outdoors.
  • The true meaning of hunting.
  • And so much more…

Here we are in Episode 14 with Paige Gore. She started shooting archery at 18 months old. Both her parents shot, so they took her and her brother to the range with them instead of leaving them at daycare. She shot 3D tournaments around the west coast until she was about 10, then they started attending Vegas. Not too long after Vegas, she discovered FITA and decided to give it a try. She shot the state FITA tournament and broke all of the state records. Soon after she decided to go to a national FITA in which she won and broke quite a few national records. After that she was hooked. She then decided she wanted to break as many records as possible, and set that as a new goal. To date she currently holds or have broken around 115 state national star FITA and world records. Next she decided to try for the United States Archery Team (USAT), and was able to qualify for that her first year at the age of 13. She also qualified for her first junior world championships and traveled to Turkey where she won the team gold. The following year, she remade USAT and requalified for the next junior world championships, where she managed to win another team gold as well as the individual gold. She has continued shooting FITA and qualified for the USAT team every year that she has tried since. She attended the most junior world championships out of anyone in the world to the best of her knowledge. She was able to go to 5 before aging out.

She became an NFAA pro at the age of 15, and she thinks that was a big step for her. She has continued to grow as an archer and has enjoyed NFAA events the most.

A few other things she has done since that time include winning the IFAA world championships and breaking a few world records at that one event, and she continues traveling with Team USA and shooting different events all around the world. Her list of accomplishments goes on and we will do our best to cover a bunch of it in the show!

This year she managed to win Redding, OPA, the Dakota Classic, the Big Sky Open, NFAA Field Nationals, NFAA Outdoor Target Nationals, NFAA Shooter of the Year, and she placed second at the Pan American Championships in Costa Rica.

In addition to target archery, she grew up hunting and still actively hunts today, both with a bow and with a gun. Hunting has always been a big part of her life along with the target side of the archery equation.

In this episode we cover:

  • Paige’s start into archery.
  • How you can cope with stress in any archery situation.
  • Paige’s shooting sequence.
  • Paige’s take on monetizing her passion.
  • Paige’s advice on getting started into the tournament circuit.
  • Hunting tips and tactics to help you rock it in the woods.
  • Some helpful success and failure stories from tournaments for you to learn from.
  • And much more…

Here we are in Episode 12 with Lexi Lou. For those of you who don't know, her real name is Alexi Quinn.  Don't ask where the nickname came from - friends and family started calling her Lexi Lou when she was young, and she guesses it just has a good ring to it.  With separated parents, Lexi bounced around between Southeast Missouri and Central Wisconsin in her childhood, but she is a cheesehead at heart.

As a kid, she was a tomboy.  Whether she was playing in the mud, fishing with her brother, or gun hunting with her dad, as long as she was outside with the boys, she was happy. When she was 12 years old she joined the Boys and Girls Brigade and started shooting archery. That grew into a passion for shooting 3D tournaments and ultimately her love for having a bow and arrow in her hand. She got a job at Mega Sports in Missouri as a bow tech when she was 17. Her passion for archery grew even greater as she learned the ins and outs of the archery equipment she was working on. She was also able to develop relationships with a few of her co-workers in order to gain permission to hunt on new land. This was all the confidence she needed in order to take her outdoor lifestyle to the next level. When she moved back to Wisconsin to go to college to obtain her firefighting degree, she started scouting, managing land, and hunting both private and public land. As a female this was difficult but it was her only option to keep her passion for bow hunting alive. She eventually met a group of friends who were big into waterfowl hunting and started dropping ducks as well. She hates to say it, but “she would almost rather be in a duck blind then a tree stand come fall.”

Now, she is working trade shows and building relationships with companies in the outdoor industry all because of the connections she made and the people she met along her journey. Hunting and the outdoors holds a special place in her heart. It has given her confidence, discipline, and helped her through some of the toughest times in her life. The value that it has brought to her is something that she wants to share with others.

Follow your dreams. Work Hard. Stay Motivated. Success and Happiness will follow.

In this episode Lexi and I cover:

  • Filming and how you can get started.
  • Helping your kids get started into archery.
  • Her trip to becoming sponsored in the outdoor world .
  • Stand hunting tips and tactics to increase your success.
  • Blind hunting tips and tactics to increase your success.
  • Some helpful social media tips to help you grow your following.
  • And much more…

Here we are in Episode 11 with Niki Tilley. Niki grew up on a small farm in the mountains of North Carolina. She learned at a young age that you hunt to eat. She helps out on the family farm and raised cattle with her Grandparents, where she learned they would butcher a few to put meat on the table. Her grandpa is the person who first started teaching her about hunting, the outdoors, and guns. She started by having target practice in the pasture using old cans as targets. When she was old enough, her Grandpa began taking her to the woods to hunt deer. Her grandpa was by her side when she killed her first deer, which happened to be a buck. As the years passed on, Niki and her Grandfather’s bond continued to strengthen as they enjoyed the outdoors together and he passed along his knowledge of the great lifestyle they live today. Niki has recently taken up the archery lifestyle, and is absolutely loving the journey. She is now traveling the world, hunting with friends, modeling for companies, and has hopes of one day being able to take her Grandpa on his dream hunt.

In this Episode we cover:

  • Niki’s start into the outdoors and hunting.
  • Niki’s start into archery.
  • A few social media tips to help you CRUSH it on social media and monetize your passions.
  • A few of Niki’s stories for you to learn from so you can hunt better.
